New London softball earns its first victory

New London — New London won its first game of the season with a 14-1 victory over Tourtellot­te in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division IV softball game on Thursday.

Alina Skrabacz had five hits and four RBI for the Whalers (1-12, 1-6) while Lynaisha Quinones had four hits and four RBI.

In other games:

• Freshman Abby Matheson won her first varsity game with a five-hitter as Griswold defeated Bacon Academy 11-2 in ECC Division II. Kaelin Waldron went 4-for-4 a home run and two RBI and Lucia Ceccarelli had three hits and three RBI for Griswold (2-13, 1-6). Jazlyn Small-Yu led Bacon (2-14, 1-6) with two hits.

• Winning pitcher Victoria Gage also had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI as Old Lyme defeated Norwich Tech 15-0 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule. Jenna Schauder had three hits and Ava Roth, Emma Bayor and Anna Eichholz had two hits apiece for Old Lyme (12-4). Norwich Tech is 9-2.

• Reese Main had four hits and two RBI as Wheeler defeated Putnam, 150 in ECC Division IV. Addie Stanley had three hits for Wheeler (7-4, 5-1).

H.S. boys' golf

• Drew Zanghetti shot 38 as Waterford defeated Norwich Free Academy 5-2 in a match at Great Neck CC. Owen Lanuza shot 41 for Waterford (75). NFA is 6-4.

• Stonington won the medal point 177-178 to take a 5-2 win over NFA on Wednesday. Cam O'Connor (43), Connor Tavares (46) and Ethan Torres (48) won their matches for Stonington (5-6). Kyle Sikorski of NFA (6-3) was the medalist with a 38 and teammate Chris Dooley (46) also won his match.

• Ellis Tech defeated Grasso Tech 182-205 in a Connecticu­t Technical Conference match at Pequot Golf Course. Nathan Sylvestre shot a team-best 43 for the Eagles (4-8, 4-7).

• Medalist Gennaro Lavado shot 54 as Griswold defeated Windham/Parish Hill in an ECC Div. III match at River Ridge. The Wolverines are 2-6, 2-2.

H.S. girls' golf

• Caitlin Daley shot 49 as Norwich Free Academy defeated Bacon Academy 216-232. Medalist Mia Belacamino shot 47 for Bacon. NFA is 7-0-1, 7-0 while Bacon falls to 2-5 1-4.

• NFA remained unbeaten with a 230-246 win over East Lyme in an ECC match on Wednesday. Sarah Healy of East Lyme (3-3, 3-2) was the medalist with a 50. Molly Plecan led NFA (6-0-1, 6-0) with a 52.

H.S. girls' track

• Leah Comeroski won three events as Lyman Memorial beat St. Bernard 82-64 in an ECC Division III meet on Wednesday. Comeroski won the 100 (12.82), 200 (27.03) and long jump (16-8) and teammate Helen Blakeslee won the 1600 (6:13) and 3200 (14:09) for the Bulldogs (6-0 3-0). Katie Power won the 300 hurdles (54.27) and triple jump (32-10.25) for St. Bernard (2-1, 2-1).

• Ledyard completed a perfect regular season in ECC Division II with a 104-41 win over New London on Wednesday. May Inyang was a triple winner for the Colonels (4-0, 4-0), capturing the 100 dash (12.4), 200 (27.6) and long jump (16-7.5), while Clare Inyang (1,600, javelin), Bella Schweitzer (high jump, triple jump), Kate Littler (400, 800) and Lavinia Hutchins (discus, shot put) won two events each. Kmara Royster won the 100 hurdles (16.7) and Darielys Arnold the 300 hurdles (48.9) for the Whalers (1-6, 1-3).
