Ledyard qualifies for state baseball tourney

Ledyard — Zion Fraser pitched a three-hitter as Ledyard qualified for the state tournament with a 3-1 baseball victory over Norwich Free Academy on Friday.

Fraser walkd one and struck out 15 for the Colonels (8-11). He also went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run while Braydon Wuestner had a hit and an RBI.

Jaxson Synott and two hits and drove in the lone run for NFA (6-13). In other games:

• Kevin Filewich pitched a complete-game six-hitter as East Lyme ended its regular season with a 3-2 victory over Woodstock Academy. Filewich did not walk a batter for the Vikings (11-9) and struck out six. Blake Biggs had two hits, including a triple, for East Lyme while John Bureau added a single and double and Owen Elmer went 2-for-3.

• Sean Raymond pitched a complete game four-hitter, striking out five, as New London defeated Stonington 3-1. Eddie Torres had two hits, including a double, to lead the Whalers (10-9) at the plate while Michael Germoso and Greg Santora also had doubles. Grant Ogden singled and scored the lone for Stonington (11-7).

• James Marsden pitched a no-hitter for six innings, striking out 10, as Valley Regional defeated Waterford 4-1 in a nonleague game. Marsden also doubled in a run and scored twice for the Warriors (16-2). Roberto Kiefer broke up the no-hitter for the Lancers (13-7) in the seventh and scored on a double by Anthony Jessuck.

Girls' tennis

Stonington clinched completed a perfect season in Division I with a 7-0 Eastern Connecticu­t Conference victory over Fitch. Maddie Hamm, Grace Duggan, Maddie Gonzalez and Mia Lewandowsk­i won singles matches for the Bears (15-1, 6-0), as did the doubles teams of Katie Johnstone-Kayta Snegovskik­h, Emily Fulling-Angelina Williams and Marcella Hamm-Lauren Buckley. Fitch is 10-5, 1-5.

Boys' tennis

• East Lyme swept the three doubles matches to pull out a 4-3 win over Fitch in an ECC Division I match. The teams of Rohan Purohit-Aditya Kara, Riley Walsh-Matt Bradley and Ajay Rana-David Chung were victorious for the Vikings (130, 6-0), as was No. 2 singles player Jiarui Peng. Will Albrikes, Ian Straub and Morgan Fisher won singles matches for the Falcons (10-4, 2-4).

Softball

• Bri Plew's grand slam highlighte­d Stonington's 13-2 victory over Plainfield in an ECC Division II game. Maddy Stepski went 5-for-5 with three doubles and four RBI for the Bears (14-3, 8-0) while Cami Brown was 3-for-3 and scored three runs, Olivia Haberek had a single, double two runs and RBI, and Hannah Nulick had a pair of singles.

• Samantha Post had a single, double and triple to highlight Grasso Tech's 22-12 loss to Civic Leadership in a nonleague game. The Eagles are 0-12.

• Grace Cosmopoulo­s hit a tworun home run in the seventh for two big insurance runs as Fitch edged East Lyme 3-0 in an ECC Division I game. Fiona Taber's RBI single in the third had given the Falcons (107, 4-2) a 1-0 lead. Winning pitcher Charlotte Cabral struck out nine while Madi Pfanner had a pair of hits for the Vikings (10-10, 2-4).

• Abby Robinson pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine as East Lyme rolled to a 16-1 win over Montville in five innings on Thursday. Ava Roach and Avery Stadler had two hits apiece for the Vikings (10-9) while Sophia Gannoe and Grace DuBrava each tripled. Taryn Fergana doubled and scored the lone run for Montville (5-13).

Boys' lacrosse

• East Lyme wrapped up the ECC Division I title with a 19-10 win over Woodstock on Thursday night. Sean McCusker had six goals and five assists, Drew Sager had three goals and two assists, Sawyer Tighe had two goals and three assists, Jack Keating and Anthony Gesino had two goals each and Mason Senkow had a goal and an assist for the Vikings (11-5, 7-1). Mason Gallo (9) and Spencer Sherman combined for 11 saves and Kevin Yang, Eddie Zheng and Reagan Pierce each had a goal for East Lyme.

• Nolan Brown had two goals and one assist as NFA beat Fitch 6-4 in an ECC Division I game on Thursday night. Logan Jenkins and Anthony Ballestrin­i added two goals apiece and goalie Sam Sweeney made 13 saves for the Wildcats (9-7, 3-5). Evan Salen scored twice for the Falcons (7-6, 2-5).

Girls' golf

• NFA beat East Lyme 221-240 in an ECC match on Thursday. Keira Kotula of NFA (9-0-1, 8-0) was the medalist with a 51 and teammate Caitlin Daley shot a 52. Sarah Healy led East Lyme (4-5, 4-3) with a 53.
