Groton Long Point — Phyllis Wilson Coldwell passed away May 15, 2022, peacefully in the company of her loving family. She was born Phyllis Elizabeth Wilson in Norwich on Oct. 20, 1926, to Clifford Edward Wilson and Hazel Fletcher Wilson. She was one of four children along with brothers, Clifford Wilson Jr. and Robert Wilson, and her sister, Camilla Wilson Dahl.

She was a longtime resident of Groton Long Point, where she spent summers for most of her life. It is also where she met her future husband, Charles William “Bill” Coldwell, on the beach in front of their cottage. Phyllis attended Skidmore College where she earned a degree in nursing and would later work as a home health nurse in New York City.

She married Charles W. “Bill” Coldwell on May 9, 1953, and lived in Bronxville, N.Y., for seven years before moving the family to Chappaqua, N.Y. where she raised her four boys: Jeff, Chuck, Scott and Mark. She was an avid gardener and a member of her local gardening clubs in both Chappaqua, N.Y., and Mystic. She was a member of the

Mt. Kisco Presbyterian Church, later the Mystic Congregational Church, and several tennis clubs. She loved to play tennis and continued to play with her Power Puff girls all the way into her 80s.

She and Bill loved Big Band music especially Glenn Miller. They loved to dance and were a wonder to behold. She had a wonderful sense of humor, too. She loved to laugh and loved family time with her boys and their families. She was known to be quite the card shark, much to everyone’s delight and dismay.

She was predeceased by her parents; siblings; as well as her husband, Charles W. Coldwell. Phyllis is survived by her four sons and their families: Jeffery W. Coldwell (Susane Cody), Charles W. Coldwell Jr., (Debbie), Robert Scott Coldwell (Kevin Maldonado), Mark Fletcher Coldwell (Leann); eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

There will be a Celebration of Life to be held later, the date to be determined.
