New London — On June 5, 2022, Doris Nepereny Edmond passed away at the age of 102 in Towson, Md. Doris was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., March 27, 1920. At the age of 13, she became a profession­al dancer, helping her parents financiall­y. While dancing, she also attended Carrick High School, graduating in 1938.

When World War II broke out, she left dancing and went to work for the U.S. Army as an office clerk. Married in 1945, she had two children and was a full-time housewife and mother. After divorcing in 1961, she went to work for the New London Office of the Registrar of Voters where she worked until her retirement.

Doris was the life partner of the late New London Fire Department Battalion Chief, Edward Murphy, until his death in 2019. Doris and Ed traveled extensivel­y in the Unites States and Europe, and conducted genealogic­al research in Ireland and the Czech Republic. She and Ed also participat­ed in many Elderhoste­ls on a wide range of subjects from classical music to computer technology. Doris was a lifelong learner and into her late 90s, she completed The Day’s crossword puzzle and solved the Jumble by mid-morning.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Judith Tolbert of White Marsh, Md.; her son, Richard Edmond of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchild­ren; nine great-grandchild­ren; and three great-great-grandchild­ren.

Services will take place Saturday, June 18, at Thomas Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Avenue, New London. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. with the service to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Jefferson Avenue, New London.
