LOCAL PLAYWRIGHT INVITES PUBLIC TO FREE PLAY READING

-

Local playwright Lydia Blaisdell will hold a three-day workshop of her script titled, “gerstl took the easy way out,” at The Eugene O’Neill Theater in Waterford from Oct. 7 to 9.

A public reading of the play will take place at 6 p.m. on Oct. 9th at All Souls Congregational Church at 19 Jay Street in New London.

The workshops are closed rehearsals with the cast and creative team, and are not open to the public.

The workshop was made possible by a American Rescue Plan Act grant from the City of New London’s Cultural District Commission, and the grant was awarded and administered by The Cultural Coalition, according to a news release.

The new play by Blaisdell is a “deliciously naughty dive into the infamous love triangle between the renowned Austrian composer Arnold Schönberg, Schönberg’s wife, Mathilde, and infamous Austrian painter, Richard Gerstl,” according to the release.

“Set in Austria in the raucous 1900s, this uproarious comedy seeks to challenge how we frame cultural narratives around genius and creation, and to interrogate who historians center in those stories,” said the release.

The cast includes New London’s “own leading lady extraordinaire,” Emma Palzere-Ray and also features: Haley Haupt, Marcel Mascaro, Reed Northrup, Andrew Reinhardt and Draya Wilbur.

Due to some explicit or challenging content, Blaisdell said she suggests the play is for an audience that is 16 or older.
