Grace Burrell

-

Mystic — Grace Arlene Walker Burrell passed away peacefully in the home that her late husband Clyde built for her over 60 years ago. She was a devoted wife and mother, a loving and supportive friend, a person who gave generously of her time and resources to a number of charitable endeavors, and an intrepid traveler on five continents.

Grace was born in New London, May 13, 1930, the daughter of Benjamin Harris Walker and Alice Allen Walker. She attended local schools and graduated from the former Chapman Technical High School. She married her husband Clyde W. Burrell Jr., in 1954, and like him, retired from Pfizer, Inc. after years of service.

Grace was a den mother for Cub Scouts and was a tutor with Literacy Volunteers of America, among other volunteer activities. Primarily with her husband, Grace traveled to over two dozen countries, including Australia, New Zealand and across the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. She loved gardening, reading, classical music and the opera, and was a talented crafter.

Grace was predeceased by her husband Clyde; her daughter Sharon Burrell; her grandson Cedric Felder; and her brothers, Cecil (Laura) Walker, Benjamin Walker and Joseph Walker; and her sisters, Mary (Willis) Matthews and Lois Walker. She is survived by her daughter Tracy Burrell of Groton; her son Wayne Burrell of Mystic; and her daughter Stacey Felder of Virginia Beach, Va.

The family would like to thank Hartford Health Care at Home Hospice Service, especially Julie Balsley, RN, for their caring and support.

Per Grace’s wishes, there will be no calling hours and burial will be private. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to Pleasant Street Baptist Church, 37 Pleasant

St., Westerly, RI, 02891.
