— Wanda Groton Z. Gidman of Fairview Nursing Facility, Groton, gently passed away Jan. 27, 2023. Wanda was born Oct. 15, 1928, to Adam Zareck and Rachel Davenport Zareck.

She was predecease­d by her husband, Robert G. Gidman; son, Gary R. Gidman; daughter, Marcy G. Drouin; as well as her sister, Donna Z. Preleski. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Jennifer Bogue (Fred) of Pawcatuck; her son, Daniel Gidman (Brigitte) of Dover Foxcroft, Maine; nine grandchild­ren, Joseph, Amy, Meredith, Rachel, Audrey, Brianna, Emma, Danny, and Sam; as well as six great-grandchild­ren, Dylan, Chloe, Eamonn, Gates, Freddie June and Gus.

Wanda graduated from high school at age 16 and became a church secretary at St. Mark’s Church in New Britain. She went on to work for the Hartford Symphony, and at one point after retiring, started her business “Staff of Life,” making her delicious Sunny Grain bread for local restaurant­s in the East Lyme area. Bud and Wanda lived in Golden Spur, East Lyme, for 33 years where they enjoyed parking their boat in the front yard (AKA: the Niantic River).

Wanda raised her children while she cared for many family members along the way. She passed on her love of art, camping, and kindness to all who knew her. A celebratio­n of life will take place in early spring. The family would like to express heartfelt appreciati­on to the many wonderful caregivers who showed her such kindness, you have touched us all.
