Harwich, Mass. — Daniel G. “Dan” Desmond, 90, of Harwich, Mass., and Delray Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully in his Harwich home Monday morning, Jan. 16, 2023. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Marilyn Manchester.

Dan was born Dec. 23,

1932, in Willimanti­c. He was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy and attended Hillyer College. As an adult, Dan lived in Norwich, Waterford and Uncasville, before moving to Harwich, Mass., and Delray Beach, Fla. Dan worked for SNET/ATT for over 30 years and retired as a plant manager.

Dan was an avid and accomplish­ed woodworker. Many family members and friends treasure the gifts of his handiwork. He was a member of the Oakdale Rod and Gun Club shooting team. He was also a member of several MG car clubs as the owner of three MGs. He proudly restored his 1953 MGTD.

Dan was honorably discharged as a sergeant, MP for the U.S. Army. He served in Korea. With his first wife Hazel (Ensling), Dan had one daughter Beth Ann, and he adopted Hazel’s three children, Sharron (deceased), Cindy (deceased) and Russ. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Florence Mary (Wade) and Gerald Desmond; and brother David; sister Nancy; and daughters, Sharron and Cindy. Along with his wife Marilyn, Dan is survived by his beloved sister Priscilla of Delray Beach, Fla.; his son Russ of Glastonbur­y; his daughter Beth Anne of Norwich, and her two children, Aja of Washington, and Zachary and his wife Kayla also of Norwich and their daughter Kate; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Peg M. O’Brien of Virginia, Ray Fry of Oregon, and Jerry Shaffer of Connecticu­t.
