Groton — Joan Frances Konicki, 81, of Groton, passed peacefully Feb. 5, 2023, in Staunton, Va. The daughter of Anthony J. Jedrey Sr. and Helene (Lucey) Jedrey, she was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Newburypor­t, Mass.

Joan was known to many as Jo, or one of her favorite and most proud names, Nana. She loved to read and was an avid Connecticu­t Sun fan. She often had several books on her two Kindles to ensure she always had a good story to read. But more than anything, she loved to spend time with her family. She loved having her children and grandchild­ren over for dinner where she would just sit, watch and listen to the stories and smile knowing how her blended family got along so well with love and respect.

She worked in retail for many years and owned several small businesses in Groton and Mystic. Two of her favorites were The Stuffed Animal Shop in downtown Mystic, and as the assistant manager at Youth Colony in Groton. She also worked at several local and school libraries.

Joan will live forever in

the hearts of her children, David Konicki and his wife Joanna, Francine Sproul and her husband Edwin; the three children of her heart, Clinton Obrey, Christophe­r Obrey and Chad Obrey and his wife Jennifer; and her grandchild­ren: Samantha Leaman, Alexandra Konicki, Morgan Sproul, Michael Konicki, Madison Konicki, Chad Obrey Jr., Patrick Obrey, and Emily Obrey. Joan is survived by her partner of 50 years,

Lian Obrey, whom she loved with all her heart and soul. She is also survived by her brother Christophe­r Jedrey and his wife Micheline. She was predecease­d by her brother Anthony Jedrey.

A Celebratio­n of Life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Grille 92 at Fairview, 235 Lestertown Road, Groton. Burial will be private.
