New London girls put a wrap on ECC D-II title

New London — New London wrapped up the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division II title with a 58-35 win over Killingly in a girls’ basketball game on Saturday.

Serenity Lancaster had 20 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks and Nalyce Dudley had 15 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals to lead the Whalers (14-6, 7-1).

Nyarah Dudley had seven rebounds, Italia Salls had four assists, Olivia Crane-Benjamin had three steals and Joe Schneider had four rebounds for New London.

In other games:

• Montville closed out its regular season with a 71-38 loss to Haddam-Killingwor­th in a nonleague game. Sophomore Jada Cheung scored a career-high 28 points for Montville (2-18).

• Mariette El Khoury scored 12 points as Fitch ended its regular season by rallying for a 42-39 overtime victory over Woodstock Academy in an ECC Division I game on Friday night. Dre’Ana Singleton made three 3-pointers and added nine points for the Falcons (13-7, 4-2).

• Windham beat Griswold 56-42 in an ECC Division III game on Friday night. Kylie McCormack had 11 points for Griswold (5-13, 2-6) and Kierra Neilson and Faith Russell each scored 10.

Boys’ basketball

• Devan Williams scored 18 points to lead five New London players in double figures as the Whalers beat New Britain 68-58 on the road. Julius Washington added 13 for the Whalers (14-4) while Da’Shaun Phillips and Xavier Goode each finished with 12 and SaVahn Warren finished with 10.

• Tony Williams scored 29 points and had five steals as NFA beat Hartford Public 97-68. Camron Barboza had 19 points and 10 rebounds, Amir Hall had 11 points and Malachy Murray scored 10 for NFA (9-9).

• Nate Virtue had 10 points and 10 rebounds as Fitch beat Weston 5638. J.J. Robinson had 15 points, five assists, five steals and five rebounds and Kevin Saintville Ravix scored 10 for the Falcons (14-4).

• St. Bernard lost to Malden (Mass.) Catholic 78-50. Malden (152) led 37-19 at halftime. Ryan Outlow had nine points, Tyson Wheeler scored eight and Cedrick Similien had seven points for the Saints (143), who had their 10-game winning streak snapped.

• Montville lost to Windham 10561. Lebron Maurice scored 26 points for Montville (6-10).

• Jack Gahrman had 22 points and six blocks as Norwich Tech beat Vinal Tech 68-50 on Friday night. Josh Hanks added 16 points for the Warriors (5-13) while Malaki Mercado made four 3-pointers and had 12 points.

Indoor track and field

NFA’s DeAndre Ducael won the shot put at the Class LL championsh­ip meet at the Floyd Little Athletic Center with a throw of 48 feet, 10.5 inches.

NFA's other place-winners were the 4x800 relay team of Patrick Croughwell, Robinson Meuse, Ethan Manfredi and Jesse Croteau (third, 8:21.27), Nicholas DeBartolo in the 1,000 (fourth, 2:46.27), Gage Weber in the pole vault (fourth, 11-0), Mason Holt in the shot (fifth, 45-11), Chris Amy in the shot (sixth, 45-9) and Kyle Kornacki in the 600 (sixth, 1:28.43).

Hannah Graham had the top finisher for the NFA girls with second in the shot put (34-10) while the 4x800 relay of Sofia Ayer, Alexis Boyer, Alyssa Newson and Leach Burchman placed third (10:12.33).

The meet was still in progress at press time with the girls' pole vault and the boys' 4x400 relay yet to be completed.

Swimming

• Jacob Lin won the 500 freestyle (4:57.52) and 100 backstroke (56.50) and swam on two winning relay teams as the Fitch co-op beat Waterford, 88-57, in an ECC meet on Friday.

The team of Evan Hespeler, Harrison Bied, Miles Mitchell and Lin won the 200 medley relay (1:52.32), John Chirico, Hespeler, Bied and Lin won the 400 freestyle relay (3:51.97) and Magnus Kueblbek, Dominick Zuliani, Colin Westkott and Mitchell won the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.16) for Fitch (6-0, 6-0).

Paul Deon Jr. won the 100 butterfly (1:06.65), Ethan Jones won the 100 freestyle (1:01.34) and Noah Westkott won the 100 breastroke (1:11.62) for the Lancers (2-6, 2-4).
