— Jean Dorothy Rogers, 87, of Waterford died peacefully at home Feb. 12, 2023, with her loving family by her side.

She was born June 8, 1935, in New London, the daughter of the late James and Wilhemina (Philips) Connell. She graduated from New London High School and worked as a legal secretary thereafter.

On April 21, 1956, she married her late husband, and love of her life, Charles R. “Bob” Rogers, at the St. James Hallam Chapel in New London. They later welcomed their three children into the world, Charles, Robert, and Patricia.

When her children were older, she spent her time baking sweet treats as the cafeteria baker at Clark Lane Middle School. Later, she spent her time as a loyal volunteer at the Lawrence + Memorial Lobby Shop, going in every Tuesday for over 25 years.

She was a devoted lifelong member of St. James Episcopal Church, where she served as an usher and member of the Altar Guild. On Friday nights, you could find her spending and enjoying time with her “ladies.” She was a devoted caregiver to her loved ones and friends in their times of need and carried a unique sense of pride in her family.

She was predecease­d by her mother, Wilhemina Connell; father, James Connell; son, Robert Alan Rogers; husband, Bob Rogers; brother, James Connell; mother-in-law, Loretta Marion; and sister, Carol Moxley.

She is survived by her son, Charles Rogers of Waterford, and her daughter Patricia Culbertson of Quaker Hill, as well as their spouses, Beth and James. She leaves behind her five grandchild­ren who she thought the world of and loved very much, Lauren Rogers, Jim Culbertson, Becca Rogers, Michael Culbertson, and Ryan Culbertson. She is also survived by her sister, Maryjane Connell of Bozrah.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at St. James Episcopal Church, 76 Federal St., New London. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, followed by a reception at St. James Seabury Center. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Memorial Fund at St James Episcopal Church, 76 Federal St., New London.
