Groton — Salvatore M. Timpano, 97, of Groton passed away at his residence Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Nardodipac­e, Italy, on Aug. 30, 1925, the son of Rocco and Cecilia Fazio Timpano. He was married to Lauretta Monteleone on Dec. 27, 1953.

Salvatore came to the United States in 1958 and had worked as a porter at Pfizer until his retirement. He had many passions, but his greatest passion was spending time with his family and friends. The love for his family was everything, as he would say “La Famiglia e Tutto,” He also enjoyed his vegetable garden and other Italian traditions. He was known by many and respected by all.

Besides his wife, Lauretta, he is survived by a daughter, Pompea Finn, and husband Steven of Groton; two sons, Rocco and wife Mary Timpano of Waterford, and Robert and wife Janet of East Lyme. He is also survived by his grandchild­ren, Sonia and Casey Finn; and Bianca, Felicia, Kristin and Michael Timpano; and his great-grandchild­ren, Gabriel, Giana, Justyce, Skylar, Michael and Camden. He was predecease­d by his brother, Bruno; and his sisters, Grazia and Josephina.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Sacred Heart Church, 56 Sacred Heart Drive, Groton. Interment will be in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery.
