Sprague — George Schlough Sr., 87, formerly of Baltic, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2023, at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. He was recently a resident at the Westview Heath Care Center in Dayville.

George was a life member of the Baltic Fire Department and ran its Cadet Program for many years; a life member of Knights of Columbus Ponemah Council #34, where he served twice as Grand Knight and was a 4th Degree Knight; a twice past master of Mount Vernon Lodge #75 of Masons and also was a 32nd degree Mason and was a Shriner; he served with the Connecticut State Police for many years as an Auxiliary State Trooper out of Troop E, then in Groton; and he was the founder of the Baltic Roofing Co., which he started in 1975. He was a loving husband and father to his family and relatives, always helping them whenever he could.

In his younger years and before he became ill, he enjoyed many days of fishing and hunting with his sons and relatives. Those who knew him realized he was a straightforward person and would only give his opinion when asked.

He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Pauline (Ziezulka) Schlough, who passed away in 2017. He was the son of Paul Schlough and Mary (Danker) Schlough, who also predeceased him. He was also predeceased by many of his brothers and sisters, namely John, Paul, Lloyd, Arthur, Ethel, Teresa, Evelyn and Sadye.

He leaves behind his two sons, George Schlough Jr. (Julia) of Dayville and Gregory Schlough (Joanne) of Norwich. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Susan Elles, Peter Elles, Jennifer Schlough, Danielle Schlough and Dacoda Schlough.

We would like to thank the Staff of Westview Health Care Center for the care and compassion that they gave to him in the final month of his life.
