Ledyard falls in MM second round

Winsted – Top-ranked Northweste­rn Regional beat Ledyard 58-48 on Thursday night in the second round of the CIAC Class MM girls' basketball tournament.

Adrianna Hardison had 13 points and eight rebounds, Monet Augmon had nine points and eight rebounds and Kieara Kirvan scored 11 for the No. 17 Colonels (14-11).

• No. 8 Hand beat No. 24 Waterford 63-25 in a Class MM second-round game. Jennie Macca Barnes led the Lancers (7-16) with 10 points.

• No. 6 Lyman Memorial beat No. 27 Putnam 68-37 in a Class S firstround game on Wednesday.

Phoebe Carpenter had 30 points, 12 rebounds, 10 steals and six locked shots for the Bulldogs (16-7), who beat Putnam for the third time this season.

Lyman hosts No. 22 North Branford in a second-round game today at 6:30 p.m. Jenny Lopez had 23 points, 10 steals, eight rebounds and seven assists, Taylor Pankowski had three assists and two steals and Juliana Haynes had six rebounds for Lyman.

• Two of today's second-round games involving local teams have moved their start times up due to expected weather issues.

The Class LL game with NFA and Newtown and the Class M game with Stonington at Bacon will both begin at 4 p.m.

H.S. wrestling

• Five local wrestlers will compete in this weekend's New England Championsh­ip tournament, which will be held today and Saturday at the Providence Career Academy.

NFA's Jaiden James, the State Open runner-up at 120 pounds, will face Anthony Touchette of Holliston (Mass.) in the today's first round while Fitch's Naszier Matthews, the

Open runner-up at 220, will wrestle Jerameel Vazquez of Hampden Charter East (Mass.) in the first round.

In addition, Montville's James Linder Jr. (138) is scheduled to meet Michael Rollins of Camden (Maine) in the first round while East Lyme/Norwich Tech's Lincoln Carlson (160) will face Colby Cloutier of King Phillip (Mass.) in the first round and teammate Brayden Soleau (180) will wrestle JamesTitre of Cumberland (R.I.) in the first round.

College honors

• Connecticu­t College junior forward/center David Murray was named to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference men's basketball second team Murray led the Camels in scoring (14.2 points), rebounds (7.6) and blocks (1.5) this season.

Middle School basketball

• Groton Middle School beat Tyl Middle School 56-36 in the Eastern Connecticu­t Middle School Conference boys' championsh­ip game to complete an undefeated season.

Michael El Khoury had 17 points, Xavier Sebastian had 11 rebounds, NyZae Tyler had 12 points and Luke Wenger had nine points and eight assists for Groton (16-0), which won its first title.

• Clark Lane Middle School rallied from a 13-point defict to beat Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School 57-53 in the Eastern Connecticu­t Middle School Conference girls' championsh­ip game and complete and unbeaten season.

Marlena Childs had 23 points and Serafina Weymouth scored 20 for Clark Lane (15-0). Jaidelis Rivera of Bennie Dover (13-2) led all scorers with 30 points.
