The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday that UConn sophomore Jordan Hawkins has been named as one of the five finalists for the 2023 Jerry West Award, which is given each year to the top shooting guard in Division I men's college basketball.

Hawkins is second on the Huskies in scoring (16.4) and is averaging 3.9 rebounds and shooting .407 overall and .378 from three. In conference games only, he leads the league in scoring (17.2) – one of only three Huskies is history to do so – is second in free throw percentage (.900) and third in three-pointers made per game (2.8). Over the last 13 games of the regular season, the smooth-shooting sophomore has averaged 18.9 ppg.

Hawkins is joined in the Jerry West Award final five by Baylor's Adam Flagler, Houston's Marcus Sasser, Kansas' Gradey Dick and Miami's Isaiah Wong.

Fans can support their favorite player by participating in Fan Voting, beginning Friday, March 10, at hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.

Later this month, the finalists will be presented to Jerry West and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, which is composed of media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. The winner will be announced on a date to be determined. The award is in its ninth year.

The Associated Press also announced its all-Big East awards on Tuesday. UConn junior forward Adama Sanogo was selected to the first team and Hawkins was a second-team pick. The AP team was determined by a vote of 11 media members who cover the conference.

Sanogo leads the Huskies in scoring (16.9) and rebounding (7.2), is shooting .586 overall, .362 from three-point range, and .782 from the foul line.

Marquette's Tyler Kolek was named the AP's Big East player of the year and Shaka Smart is the unanimous pick for coach of the year after the two led the Golden Eagles' surprising run to their first regular-season championship in 10 years.

Xavier's Souley Boum was voted newcomer of the year.

Kolek was a unanimous All-Big East first-team pick along with Providence's Bryce Hopkins.
