Niantic — Robert Eiriksson Pflomm, 92, formerly of Niantic passed away Monday, March 13, 2023, just shy of his 93rd birthday. Bob was born May 24, 1930, in Groton, to Katie Eiriksson and Wilbur William Pflomm.

Bob attended Old Lyme High School before entering the United States Navy in 1948. Stationed at Naval Air Station Jacksonvil­le, he was turned down for pilot training due to color-blindness, but neverthele­ss attained his private pilot’s license once honorably discharged in 1952 and enjoyed flying his favorite Piper J3 Cub.

Bob graduated from the University of Connecticu­t’s School of Social Work with a master’s degree and spent his career working for the State of Connecticu­t as a psychiatri­c social worker first in the Department of Children and Families, then at the Norwich State Hospital and The Child Guidance Clinic of New London.

Predecease­d by his parents; his brother Wilbur Pflomm; and his wife Constance “Connie” Pflomm. Bob is survived by his first wife Ruth Pflomm of East Lyme; daughter Martha Garvin (Steve) of Waterford; son Robert Pflomm of East Lyme; and daughter Kirsten Pflomm (Jay) of Stonington; his two granddaugh­ters, Alexa Garvin and Brooke Garvin of Waterford; and Connie’s sons, Will (Laura) Ward and Chuck (Jeannine) Ward. He is also survived by his former daughter-in-law Monica Ward; and step-grandchild­ren, Rhiannon Gates and Gabe Ward.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Beechwood Rehabilita­tion in New London, in particular Charity, Tanzi, Stephanie and Sarah, who provided him great comfort during his time there. The family is also grateful to Nancy, the hospice nurse, for her compassion­ate care in his final days.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Byles Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. in Groton. Graveside services with military honors will commence 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2023, at Starr Burying Ground Cemetery, Lestertown Road in Groton.
