Gary Piver

Stonington — Gary F. Piver, 69, lifelong resident of Stonington, died Monday, March 6, 2023. Born in New London, he was the son of the late Edmund Piver and Dorothy (Smith) Piver.

He attended local schools in Stonington, and was a graduate of SHS, Class of 1971.

He was predeceased by his brother Michael Piver; and a nephew Joshua Piver.

Gary was a custodian for almost two decades in the Stonington School System, most recently at Stonington High School up until his passing. He was a graduate of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., with a degree in microbiology. After graduating, he held positions at Tufts University and Cornell Medical Center conducting research on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and other health related issues. Living both in New York City, N.Y., and Boston, Mass.

Gary was a member of the United Church of Stonington. He enjoyed cooking for the monthly soup-a-thons and going to Sunday worship.

He is survived by his brother Jon Piver of Stonington; his niece Erika Piver; great-niece Jocelyn Robinson; great-nephews Christopher Snyder and Nakhi Snyder; great-greatnephews, Lincoln and Lennox Robinson.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at the United Church of Stonington. 67 Main St. Reception in Fellowship Hall to follow. There are no calling hours.
