Marie Ricketts
Stonington — Marie Gendron Ricketts, formerly of South Strafford, Vt., died at home Wednesday, March 15, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth Anthony Gendron and Margaret (Distel) Gendron, born June 23, 1956.
She graduated from the Academy of the Holy Names High School in 1974 and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy N.Y., starting in 1974, where she received two degrees: a bachelor of science in computer and systems engineering in 1978 and a master of engineering in computer and systems engineering in 1991. She worked at International Business Machines in Essex Junction, Vt., from 1996 to 1998 while residing in Essex Junction, Vt. In 1998, Marie was hired as an analyst by the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, where she worked until retiring in 2015.
After retirement, Marie and her husband traveled the country in their RV for two years, visiting many National Parks and famous landmarks.
Marie loved retirement and volunteering. She was an appointed volunteer with AARP CT working primarily on advocacy. She was active with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Rhode Island, where she served on the Technology Committee and taught classes in mahjong. Marie was active in Democratic politics in Vermont, where she held positions as Strafford, Vt., Town Chairwoman and County Chairwoman for Orange County, Vt. In Connecticut, she was a former member of the Ledyard Democratic Town Committee and a current member of the Stonington Democratic Town Committee.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Vormelker of Stonington; sons Matthew Riegert (Dana) of Watertown, Mass., Luke Riegert (Michelle) of North Andover, Mass., and Lance Riegert (Victoria) of Pittsford, N.Y.; and daughter Trista Riegert of Somerville, Mass.; and 11 grandchildren.
