Old Lyme — Christine “Chris” Crosby James, of Old Lyme, passed unexpected­ly March 11, 2023, in Scranton, Pa.

Chris was born in Manchester, March 14, 1962, and grew up on Spruce Street in the same town. She remained a special presence to her family and large circle of childhood friends. After graduating from high school, Chris attended the University of Connecticu­t and completed her degree in graphic design at Central Connecticu­t State University. She was a resident of Old Lyme for nearly 30 years and brought her unique sense of humor and loyalty to a new set of friends, hosting many gatherings in the Rogers Lake neighborho­od she loved. She was a dedicated caregiver and worked most of her career as a homemaker and companion for elderly persons.

She leaves behind her beloved son, Ian R. James of Boston, Mass.; her dear friend and former husband Dan James of Old Lyme; a stepsister Joanne Crosby Oldenburg and a stepbrothe­r Robert Crosby both of Manchester an uncle Dr. Albert Guay (Carolyn) of Chicago, Ill.; uncle David Guay (Eileen) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her aunt Lorraine (Guay) Dozois (Roger) of San Diego, Calif.; aunt Alice Butler (David) of Ocean Springs, Miss.; aunt Nancy Guay of Reading, Mass.; her many cousins, Michael Dozois, Dr. Jeffrey Guay, Dr Laura Guay, Cynthia Nelson (Mark), Lisa Blais (William), Pamela Terhune (Jonathan), Meghan Canada (Phillip), Dr. David Guay (Deborah); and her precious four-legged companions, Maeve and CatDog.

She was predecease­d by her maternal grandparen­ts, Albert Guay and Florence (Dowds) Guay; paternal grandparen­ts, Ernest Crosby Sr. and Grace Crosby; her parents, De-de Pudeler (Guay) and Ernest Crosby; her stepfather Kenneth Pudeler; her uncle Dennis Guay (Phyllis).

Her many friends and family will be celebratin­g her life Saturday, March 25, and a Visitation with the family will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 17 Pickerel Cove Trail, Old Lyme. Please bring your humor, a story of Chris to tell, and maybe wear something green or a shamrock or two. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries.
