Darielys Arnold sets meet record in 100 at Roberts Invite

New London sophomore is named top sprinter

Durham — New London sophomore Darielys Arnold won the 100-meter dash in record fashion at the Marty Roberts Invitation­al in track & field action on Saturday.

Arnold's tim of 12.56 seconds set a meet record and earned her the Best Female in Sprints award.

The Whalers' Kmara Royster won the 100 hurdles (16.08) and was second in the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches), Tatianna Pemberton was second in the long jump (16-4) and fourth in the triple jump (33-0.5) and Lelani Robinson was fourth in the 200 (26.94) and sixth in the 100.

Boys’ track

• Fitch's 4x100 relay team of Charlie Tarbox, Andrevion Dixon, Nym Gamboa and Oakley Garrison finished third at the Middletown Invitation­al with a time of 43.66. Charles Cabusao was fourth in the javelin (160-1), Derek Osborne was fourth in the pole vault (12-0) and Ryan Dunning was sixth in the 1600 (4:27.77).

• New London's Tyree Barnes was fifth in the 200 (23.50) at the Marty Roberts Invitation­al at Coginchaug.

Softball

• Emma Bayor pitched a three-hitter to lead Old Lyme past Fitch 4-2 in a nonleague game. Bayor (11-1) struck out 10, walked five and allowed one earned run.

Anna Eichholz had two hits and scored a run, Jamie Buchor singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in a run and Ava Roth drove in a run for the Wildcats (11-1). Charlotte Cabral took the loss for Fitch (7-7).

• Hailey Smith doubled, homered and drove in all of Norwich Free Academy's runs in a 4-2 win over Brookfield. Melina Graziano was 3-for-3 with a double, stolen base and scored twice for the Wildcats (11-3) and Jillian Dykema went 4.1 innings for the win.

• Annabelle Wentzel had a triple and struck out seven in four innings of relief pitching as St. Bernard qualified for the state tournament with a 7-5 win over Montville. Kaity Scribner had two hits and drove in three runs and Maddy Scribner stole two bases for the Saints (8-5). Madison Taylor and Savannah Malinowsky each had two hits for Montville (3-12) and Amanda Corrice struck out five over six innings.

• No. 4 Masuk beat Waterford 4-0 behind a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts by Julia Bacoulis.

The Lancers are 10-4.

Boys’ tennis

• Fitch beat Montville 5-2 for its eighth straight win. Will Albrikes, Morgan Fisher and Michael McBride won their matches for the Falcons (10-1) along with the doubles teams of Nick Sousa-Michael Petropoulo­s and Jason Greene-Mason Woodhams. Brendan Duhamel of Montville (4-5) won at No. 2 singles and teammates Nathan Dhillon and Jack Bowman also teamed up for a win.

Girls’ tennis

• Fitch beat Ledyard 7-0. Julia Mielgui, Charlotte Beaulieu, Maddie Beaulieu and Fiza Shariff won their matches in straight sets for the Falcons (8-4) along with the doubles teams of Ada Ellis-Izzy Ash, Kelly Turley-Sophie Ash and Ava Kennedy-Katie Virtue. Ledyard is 7-2.

• NFA swept singles play and beat Killingly 5-2 in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division II match. Leeya Fabry, Katie Lavoie, Joanna Wu and Gabrielle McLead all won in straight sets for the Wildcats (3-8, 1-4). The teams of Norah Dimantino-Malia Tayler-Rofichaud and Talia Gonzalez-Penny Lin also won for NFA.

• New London lost to Killingly 6-1 on Friday. Nakayla Isaac and Shaina Jean-Francois won at No. 2 doubles for the Whalers (3-6).
