Bacon beats Montville as Josh Ambrose pitches a one-hitter

Colchester — Josh Ambrose pitched a one-hitter as Bacon Academy beat Montville 6-0 in a high school baseball game on Saturday, qualifying for the Class M tournament in the process.

Ambrose struck out nine and was backed by an 11-hit attack. James Gumbs had two hits and scored twice, James Chiaverini had two hits and Steven

Laliberte and Mason Pingree each had an RBI single for the Bobcats (8-6).

Richie Walters had a two-out single in the second inning for Montville (4-10).

In other games:

• Wheeler beat Norwich Tech 6-4 to improve to 10-1. Sean Bergel had two hits, James Main scored twice and Deondre Bransford had a double for the Lions. Collin Schulze drove in two runs and Josh Hanks scored twice for Norwich Tech (6-8).

• Fitch beat LaSalle Academy (R.I.) 9-3 in a nonleague game. Dylan Meyer went six innings for the win, striking out six. Isaac Frank and Donte Valentine had two hits each for the Falcons (7-7).

• Colin Mitchell pitched a two-hitter as Griswold beat Windham 4-1. Mitchell struck out eight in the complete game. Cory Smith had two hits and Sean Garvin doubled for the Wolverines (7-7). Windham pitcher Jack Valliere struck out eight with one walk.

• Woodstock Academy improved to 12-2 with a 5-2 win at Stonington. Woodstock's Marcus McGregor drove in the goahead run with two outs in the fifth inning after the Centaurs scored two runs on an outfield error. McGregor and Carter Morrissette had two hits apiece and Eric Mathewson pitched three innings of scoreless relief for the win. Aaron LoPresto and Jace Wolfradt each had two hits and an RBI for Stonington (7-7).

• Gwill Cook pitched a three-hitter as Plainfield beat Lyman Memorial 6-0. Dominic Pontbriant doubled for Lyman (6-6). Kaison Mayernik had two hits and drove in two runs for Plainfield.

• Killingly beat Ledyard 11-1. Ethan Petrowski had a double for Ledyard (1-13). Andreas Lopez and Ben Jax had two hits each for Killingly (6-7).
