New London — Joseph John “Joe” LoGioco, 78, of New London, passed away Oct. 10, 2023, at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Joe was a 1963 graduate of New London High School and continued his education at Mitchell College, graduating in 1966. Joe served New London County for over 45 years as a sheriff. He believed in giving back to his lifelong community, which he did over the years by contributi­ng his time to the New London Planning and Zoning Committee, as well as being a veteran of the U.S. National Guard, just to name a few. He was known for his kindness, generosity and many charitable acts.

Joe was a member of the Great Neck Country Club and the New London Elks. He enjoyed watching games of his favorite teams: the Dallas Cowboys, UConn women’s basketball and the New York Yankees.

He is predecease­d by his parents, James and Lena (Syracuse) LoGioco. Joe is survived by his wife Winnie LoGioco; a son, Bryan Amrosino, and his wife Erin of Old Saybrook; two grandsons, Dean and Caden; as well as Winnie’s son and grandchild­ren, with whom Joe built a wonderful relationsh­ip.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Yale New Haven Hospital sixth floor nursing team, who worked tirelessly to give medical care to Joe during his time of need as well as giving love and support to his wife, Winnie.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which Joe believed in and gave financial support to.
