James Turner
Mystic — James Patrick Turner passed away peacefully from cancer Oct. 10, 2023, surrounded by loved ones in Mystic. James was born in New Haven, the son of the late Mary Eileen and Allan J. Turner.
Jammer, as James was affectionately known, was a former lifelong resident of West Haven, residing on Platt Avenue. Jammer’s passion was enjoying a cruise on his Harley Davidson and taking in the summer breezes along the West Shore beaches. Jammer was a 44-year conductor with the Amtrak National Railroad Passenger Corporation and could always be seen as a fixture on the Boston and New York rail lines. Jammer was a philanthropic supporter for several international relief organizations supporting children in need and law enforcement agencies.
Jammer is survived by his siblings and their spouses: Alice and Ralph Cortigiano of Branford, Bill Turner and Paul Coutu of Kentford Farm, Stonington, Bob and Antoinette Turner of Surfside Beach, S.C., and Patrick Turner and Lorraine DeMarzo of West Haven. Jammer also leaves a niece, Kimberly Cerbone (Antonio) of California; and nephews, Michael Cortigiano (Meg) of Portsmouth, R.I., Michael Turner of West Haven, and Robert, Alan and Richard Turner of North Haven. Jammer was predeceased by his brother Michael.
Relatives and friends are invited at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Stanislaus Church, 9 Eld St. in New Haven. Interment is in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
