POLICE: FENTANYL, METH, CRACK AND ILLEGAL GUN FOUND INVESTIGATING CRASH
Middletown — A gun tossed after a crash in Middletown led police to seize more than $8,000 worth of drugs from a local man last month, according to the Middletown Police Department.
Carlos F. Negron, 32, was charged with various offenses Nov. 17 after police said they found fentanyl, methamphetamine, crack cocaine and paraphernalia.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at around 6:20 p.m. on Nov. 17 on Route 9 at the intersection with Hartford Avenue.
When police told Negron he was under arrest, he decided he no longer needed to go to the hospital and went into the police cruiser. At police headquarters, officers conducted additional searches of Negron and found a bag of suspected crack cocaine, a bag that tested positive for fentanyl and two plastic bags weighing 62 grams that tested positive for methamphetamine, police said in the report.
After his arrest, Negron told detectives that the firearm found at the scene belonged to him, according to police.
With the packaging, police said Negron had about 3 grams of fentanyl, 72.7 grams of methamphetamine, 19.5 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and about 7.5 grams of crack cocaine. The fentanyl, methamphetamine and crack cocaine were worth an estimated $8,224, according to the report.
Negron is charged with illegal alteration of a firearm identification mark, carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a dangerous weapon, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, tampering with physical evidence, interfering with an officer, criminal possession of a firearm, following too closely, illegal operation of a motor vehicle under suspension, illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, use of drug paraphernalia, three counts of possession of a controlled substance and three counts of sale of a narcotic substance.
Court records show he was released after posting a $300,000 bond in the case, and a judge ordered his rearrest Dec. 4.
