Singing ‘Matilda’
The Niantic-based Broadway Kids & Company presents “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical” Friday and Saturday at the Garde Arts Center in New London.
Broadway Kids & Company is a pre-professional performing arts training academy whose students hail from around the region, from Westerly to Canterbury. This past summer, their competitive company won the Star Dance Alliance World Dance Championships in Secaucus, N.J.
“Matilda the Musical” is based on Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book about a girl who dreams of a better life, and it was adapted for the stage by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Kristin Burrows directs the Broadway Kids & Company production. Melody Harvison and Celia Cironi each play the role of Matilda at different performances. The rest of the cast includes Lily Curtiss as Miss Honey, Lexie Hullivan as Ms. Trunchbull, Ryder Poirier and Olivia Marelli as Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, and Claire Dlubac as Lavender. Cas Giguere plays Mrs. Phelps, with Keniyah Hill taking on the role for the Saturday matinee, and Gavin Holwitt and Gianna Gingras share the role of Bruce Bogtrotter.
