Greenwich — Garrison

Sewall Lane, of Greenwich and Stonington, died after a short battle with illness, Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023. He was born Jan. 23, 1963, in New York City, to the late Marcia Huhn Lane and Garrison Fairfield Lane.

Garrison attended the Episcopal School of NYC, and was a communicant at Christ Church in Greenwich. He was a graduate of Greenwich High School and the CT School of Broadcasting, and was a lifelong resident of Greenwich, and later Stamford. Garrison was trained in Taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling. He loved the movies and all things musical, especially singing and jazz. Garrison was a drummer and composer of music. He was a voracious eater, especially Indian food, and was always good for thirds, provided there were “no creamed onions, please.” Garrison had a great sense of humor, was fastidious about cleanliness, a fancier of band aids and a devout believer in the power of vitamins. While blind, he had the hearing of a secret service agent. In his younger days, he knew the streets and avenues of his beloved Greenwich like the back of his hand and was renowned for walking everywhere.

He is predeceased by his beloved mother Marcia “HiHo” Lane. He is survived by his father Garrison F. Lane; sister Marcia Lane Clair and husband Richard; sister Madeleine Lane-Duigan and husband Shane, and their children, Brennan, Holly and Griffin.

A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. for Friday, Jan. 19, at Christ Church in Greenwich. A service is also scheduled at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at Calvary Church in Stonington. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to CT Services for the Blind. Contact Lisa Drew, Bureau of Education Services for the Blind, 184 Windsor Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095.
