Matlock throws 60-4.25 to win shot put at URI Classic

— East Lyme High School's Thomas Matlock continued his assault on the records books Saturday at the URI Indoor Track Classic, eclipsing the 60-foot mark in the shot put for the first time in his career.

Matlock's toss of 60 feet, 4.25 inches, was enough to win by six feet. He also finished fifth in the weight throw with a personal best 58-4.

Also for the Vikings, Sean McCauley won the 1,600 meters in 4:30 with Matt Carrier in fifth and Jack Faitsch in sixth, Andrew Carrier won the 3,200 in 10:31 and the 4x800 relay team of McCauley, Sam Leone, Jilali Benjdid and Matt Carrier was first in 8:33.

East Lyme had four of the top finishers in the 1,000 with Benjdid second, Leone third, Kai Ritz fifth and Maddox Grillo-Smith sixth. Matt Leone was third in the 55 hurdles and Beck Schultz was sixth in the 600. The 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams were third.

Fitch's Evan Vitigliano won the boys' 600 (1:27.96) and was a part of the Falcons' winning 4x400 relay team, joining Amill Houston, Porter Carter and Ryan Dunning. Fitch's 4x200 team of Carter, Bernard Drayton, Calvin McCoy and Felipe Dantas was also first.

Ledyard's Jackson Hill was second in the 3,200, Old Lyme's Jacob Volkerts second in the 55 dash, Fitch's Zayshawn Griffin second in the long jump and third in the triple jump, Ledyard's Christian Wiltshire second in the high jump and

On the girls' side, East Lyme's Jayla Washington won the long jump at 16-8 and the Fitch girls won the 4x200 relay.

Ledyard's Josie Withbroe was second and East Lyme's Maya D'Aquila third in the 3,200, Ledyard's Madisen McLeod second in the 55 hurdles, Ledyard's Kate Littler second in the 1,000 and third in the 1,600, Fitch's Alaina Campbell second in the 300, East Lyme's Lacey-Lee Keramidas second and Ledyard's Keara Opalenik third in the high jump, East Lyme's Washington third in the triple jump and Fitch's Emma Forde third in the 1,000. Ledyard was second in the 4x800 relay and third in the 4x400 and East Lyme was second in the 4x400.
