Conn’s Finkel captures NESCAC Swimmer of the Year honors again

Waterville, Maine – Connecticut College finished in eighth place on Sunday at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships.

Junior Justin Finkel led the way for the Camels. Finkel won the 200-yard butterfly on Sunday in a meet and pool-record time of 1:44.62 and was a repeat selection as NESCAC Swimmer of the Year.

He becomes just the fourth NESCAC swimmer to earn the honor in consecutive seasons, as well as the first from Conn College

Earlier in the four-day event, Finkel defended his titles in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Conn's Matthew Morris was seventh in the 200 backstroke (1:50.16). And in the 1,650 freestlye the Camels placed Evan Lyons fourth (15:50.31), Ian Sullivan eighth (16:08.71) and Matthew Laclef 10th (16:15.74).

Conn wrapped up the weekend by finishing eighth in the 400 free relay with Sullivan, Finkel, Patrick Henry and Cooper Voss posted a season-best time of 3:03.38. Williams College captured the team title with 1,898.5 points, the 21st title in program history.

H.S. gymnastics

• Stonington finished seventh at the CIAC Class S championships on Saturday. Hand of Madison won the title with 124.475 points, its third straight title, and Stonington had a score of 140.275. Mary Lord had the top score for the Bears in bars (7.4), beam (8.25) and floor (8.00) and Shay Burnside had their top score on vault (8.375).

Men’s basketball

• St. Thomas More is the No. 2 seed in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference Class AAA tournament. The Chancellors host No. 7 Brewster Academy in a quarterfinal on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Should they advance, they will hosts a semifinal on Saturday. The final is Sunday at Western New England.
