Montville — Thomas “Tom” LaMarche, 87, of Oakdale, passed away Feb. 29, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born Sept. 20, 1936, to Eugene and Emily LaMarche.

A graduate of Windham High School’s Class of 1954, Tom’s early passion for mechanics and craftsmans­hip set the course for his future: a full career in the automotive industry. Starting as a car mechanic at Markland’s Garage in Storrs, his dedication and expertise propelled him to service manager positions at several local dealership­s including Simon Ford, Colonial Chrysler Plymouth, Risko Chrysler Plymouth and Girard Motors. In 1977, Tom along with his wife Joyce, opened the British T’ Shop, a haven for British sports car enthusiast­s. Here, he combined his love for mechanics with his business sense working on and selling British sports cars.

Tom’s life was enriched by his beloved wife, Joyce (Amburn) LaMarche, with whom he shared a love for raising miniature horses, and traveling by motorhome to Alaska twice and several cross-country trips. Joyce predecease­d him in 2016.

He is survived by his son, Richard LaMarche and wife Laury of Oakdale. and their son Griffin of Manhattan; his sister Judy Kimball of Wethersfie­ld; his brother Robert LaMarche of Coventry; his niece Sawyer Peabody and her family of Portland.

Tom’s life was a testament to the values he held dear: hard work, family and the joy of pursuing one’s passions. Tom will be fondly remembered for his love of chat and many cherished friendship­s.

Calling hours will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Maplewood cemetery, 184 Salem Turnpike, Norwich.
