Marie Burton, 95, passed away peacefully at home March 5, 2024. She was born April 22, 1928, in Saint-Leonard-d’Aston, Quebec, Canada, to Ernestine (Doucet) and Francois Dionne.

Jeannine became a first- and second-grade teacher early in her life, later becoming a registered nurse. She met her late husband, Raymond Burton, and they soon moved to Connecticut where they started a family. As the kids got older, she returned to the work force becoming a supervisor at Seaside Regional Center in Waterford. After retiring, she continued to keep busy by caring for the elderly and traveling with her siblings.

Jeannine cherished spending time with her family, especially over the holidays. She was always happy to meet new people and loved having a conversation. She was a devoted mother, wife and a loving sister. She would do anything to help her family. Jeannine adored her grandchildren, Olivia and Laura, as well her daughters-in-law, Rosanne, Faith and Cara. She loved her dog Bambi and taking walks with him. Also, Jeannine was a devout Catholic and never missed Sunday Mass.

She is survived by three sons, Gilbert of New London, Martin of Salem, and Lambert (spouse Rosanne) of Wakefield, Mass.; two granddaughters, Olivia Burton of Salem and

Laura Burton of Wakefield. She was predeceased by a son, Pasteur, of Waterford. She is survived by a sister, Françoise Dionne; and two brothers, Jean-Guy Dionne and Louis Dionne, all of Quebec, Canada. She was predeceased by brothers, Yvon Dionne, Rémi Dionnem and Achille Dionne; and sisters, Lucile Dionne, and Andrée Dionne. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The loss of Jeannine will leave a void in the lives of those who knew her. To celebrate her life, visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. March 11 at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, and a funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 149 Montauk Ave., New London.
