Joal Patterson

Uncasville — Joal Friese Patterson, 87, of Uncasville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. She was born June 17, 1936, in Putnam, daughter of the late Joseph William and Alice (Young) Friese.

She graduated from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing, RN. Joal spent many years as director of nursing and took pride in developing several programs for infection control and CNA training. Her interests included painting, sailing, playing piano, traveling, bird watching, following UConn basketball, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. She also had wonderful, lifelong memories of summers at Alexander Lake.

Joal was married to Bruce Patterson for 37 wonderful years and predeceased him by one day. She is survived by her children: Robert (Kathleen) Paddon of Brooklyn, Elizabeth Paddon Ouellette of Norwich, and Faith (Philip) Paddon Silverman of Manchester; stepchildren, Denise (Peter) Manguse, Dawn Patterson, and Daniel Patterson; grandchildren: Lindsay Storey (Matthew Schill), Lukas Ouellette, Jacob Ouellette, Joshua Nixie, BriAnna Nixie, Richard Cofone, Lettie-Lea (Jason) Martin, Michael (Kayleigh) Mowrey, and Deanna Cotto; her sister Marilyn Brent; and several cousins and great grandchildren.

Joal was predeceased by her former husband Robert Paddon Sr.

A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, in Westfield Congregational Church immediately followed by a Memorial Service in the church. A graveside service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Plainfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Westfield Congregational Church, Danielson. tillinghastfh.com.
