Uncasville — Michael Laputz, 96, a longtime Uncasville resident, passed away March 16, 2024. He was born Aug.

22, 1927, in Norwich, the son of Jerry and Fedora (Shemet) Laputz and was the loving husband of the late Claire (Awezec) Laputz. They were married Aug. 5, 1950, at St. John Church in Uncasville.

Michael grew up in Bozrah where he attended school. He was a veteran of World War II having served as a seamen first class on the USS California with the U.S. Navy from Dec. 1, 1944. He was honorably discharged July 25, 1946.

After the war, he returned to Norwich, and began his work career at Plastic Wire and Cable and later worked as a truck driver with Associated Transport and Yellow Freight. He loved his work and was very proud of being presented with an award for 35 years of safe driving. Michael settled in Uncasville, where he was a member of the Montville Polish American Citizens

Club and the Montville Senior Center. He loved taking care of his yard, was a Red Sox fan, and enjoyed spending time with his friends at Cardinal Honda in Groton. He was a past member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Norwich.

He is survived by his daughter Monica Pomazon; granddaugh­ter Suzanne Freeman and husband Richard; two great grandsons, David and James Freeman; and was a proud uncle of many dear nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by his wife Claire; brothers, Harry and Sherosh Laputz; sisters: Alice Burelle, Helen Radzwilowi­cz, Zina Surprenant and Mary Busch; and son-in-law Todd Pomazon.

Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Woyasz &

Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to CT Children’s Hospital Foundation, 282 Washington St., Hartford, CT 06106.
