East Lyme — Robert “Bob” Louis Boivin, 87, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Muriel “Min” Simone Boivin for 64 years.

Bob was born in Taunton, Mass., on Sept. 21, 1936, to the late Joseph A. Boivin and Rosebelle Quinter Boivin. He was the youngest of three children, predecease­d by his siblings, Raymond Boivin and Jeanne LaBelle.

Bob and Min married Aug. 29, 1959. Together, they raised two children, Paul and Mark. Bob and Min celebrated the marriage of Mark and Fern (née Amuan), and Paul and Wendy (née Pickett). He was the proud grandfathe­r of six grandchild­ren, Brittany, Tory, Katie, Joey, Alex, and Jackie; and great-grandfathe­r to Zuzu, Zoe, Eva, Claire, William, and Charlie.

Bob received his undergradu­ate degree in electrical engineerin­g from Northeaste­rn University in 1959 and his graduate degree from the University of Connecticu­t in 1964. In his career at the Naval Underwater Sound Laboratory as a systems engineer, Bob was awarded the coveted “Decibel Award” for his contributi­ons to the advancemen­t of surface ship sonar. He retired in 1991.

Throughout his life, Bob was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing at the Great Neck Country Club, and the Champion Turf Club at St. James. He shared his love of golf with his sons and grandsons, hosting an annual Fourth of July family golf tournament. Bob enjoyed traveling all over the world with his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife, children, grandchild­ren, and great-grandchild­ren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024, at St. Agnes Church, Haigh Avenue, Niantic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
