Mystic — Tom Tetlow Jr., 85, of Mystic, died April 5, 2024, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn M. Tetlow.

Tom was born March 25, 1939, in Mystic, the son of Marion Brown Tetlow and Tom Tetlow Sr. He graduated from Stonington High School in 1957, and went on to serve in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1963. He then went to work for the City of Groton in the electrical department, retiring in 1997. Tom volunteere­d at the Mystic Fire Department and Hook and Ladder holding multiple positions including deputy chief. He also was an MRT on the Mystic Ambulance.

Tom was married to his wife, Carolyn, for 62 years. He loved spending time with family and friends at picnics, the coffee shop and lunches with his sister Judy. He also enjoyed boating, fishing with his brother David, gardening, going to the race tracks, and he loved his romance novels. Tom loved his jokes — one-liners that he told to many people. He had a lot of friends that were family, and he would always be the first to lend a helping hand.

In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by his sisters, Judy, Pam (Dave) and Carla (Robert); and brother David; as well as his son Tom III; daughter Elizabeth; four grandchild­ren; and four great-grandchild­ren.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at the funeral home. Burial will be private at a later date.
