Dreyfus pitches East Lyme past Waterford
— Alex Dreyfus allowed East Lyme one hit over five innings and East Lyme blanked Waterford 11-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I baseball game shortened to five innings on a mercy rule on Tuesday.
Liam Cochrane, Garrison Biggs and A.J. Montejano had two hits apiece for the Vikings (1-1, 1-0). Waterford is 3-1, 0-1.
• Carter McGlinchey had three hits and four RBI as Old Lyme defeated Portland 10-6 in the Shoreline Conference. McGlinchey doubled in the fifth scoring two runs and had RBI singles in the first and third innings for the Wildcats (4-1).
• Lyman Memorial edged Plainfield 9-8. Winning pitcher Alex Ortiz struck out nine and also drove in two runs for the Bulldogs (3-1). Dom Pontbriant, Nick Chalifoux and Jeremiah Bobbi had two hits apiece for Lyman.
• No. 8 Joel Barlow snapped a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning and defeated St. Bernard, 6-4. Desmond Powers pitched a complete game for the Saints (1-1) with eight strikeouts.
• Bacon blanked Putnam, 5-0. Winning pitcher Chris Lusignan struck out 10 and Ethan Creutz had three hits for Bacon (2-1).
H.S. softball
• Bella Bruno had two hits and two RBI as Griswold defeated Lyman Memorial, 14-2. Abigail Matheson was the winning pitcher and Kierra Nelson had three RBI for the Wolverines (2-1).
• NFA handed Old Lyme its first loss, 2-0. Hailey Smith struck out five and Ava Boenig homered for NFA (12). Emma Bayor pitched a three-hitter for Old Lyme (3-1) with 10 strikeouts and seven walks.
• Abby Daniewicz was the winning pitcher and also had three hits as Montville defeated Norwich Tech 10-5. Taryn Feragne had three runs scored for the Wolves (3-1). Morgan Cook scored two runs for Norwich Tech (1-2).
• Anabelle Wenzel pitched a three-hitter as St. Bernard defeated Killingly, 6-1. Maddie Scribner and Aubrey Nygaard had two hits apiece for the Saints (2-0).
• Ledyard scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for a 7-6 win over Woodstock Academy. Faith Dalton had three hits and Aleecia Helme and Mia Starling had triples for the Colonels (1-1).
H.S. boys’ lacrosse
• Logan Jenkins scored seven goals to lead Norwich Free Academy past Norwich Tech 14-3. After Jenkins scored four in the first quarter to put NFA on top 5-1, Landon Traylor scored the second of his two goals for Norwich Tech (1-3) to cut it to 5-3 in the second. After that, the Wildcats (3-1) held the Warriors scoreless for the game's final 31 minutes. Conor Gaughan added three goals and three assists for NFA.
• Aiden Gillece, Kyle Olsson, Ethan Mahoney and Tyler Simao scored four goals each as Stonington beat Montville 21-9 in an ECC Division II game. Nate Mahoney had three goals and two assists, Josh McBain scored twice and Olsson had two assists for the Bears (3-0, 2-0).
Gavin Delucia scored three goals, Chris Baukus and Calen Vanvoorhies had two goals each and Jayden Sherwood had three assists for Montville (0-4, 0-2).
H.S. girls’ lacrosse
• New Fairfield defeated East Lyme, 15-3. Lily Poletto had a goal and two assists for East Lyme (2-1).
• Williams School lost to Hamden Hall 18-3 on Monday. Skylar Raymond scored twice, Ally Iacobellis had a goal and Skylar Frost had an assist and seven ground balls for the Blues (1-2).
College baseball
• Wheaton defeated Coast Guard, 10-5, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. Wyatt Duthu had three RBI for the Bears (12-6, 3-1).
H.S. boys’ tennis
• Benny Wu won No. 1 singles and Montville defeated Lyman Memorial 6-1 in ECC Div. III. Danny Zhong, Ryan Yang and Fenlei Chen also won in singles for the Wolves (1-0, 1-0).
H.S. volleyball
• Norwich Free Academy lost to Wolcott Tech 25-11, 16-25, 25-14, 2025, 12-15. Alec Ferland had 18 assists and Gage Hinkley 17 kills and seven digs for NFA (3-1).
College notes
• The Mitchell College softball team swept the weekly Great Northeast Athletic Conference awards as junior Gemma Landry was named player of the week, senior Katelyn Lipsky was named pitcher of the week and freshman Madison Cole was named rookie of the week.
