Conn. man charged with manslaughter in death of woman run over in driveway

- By JUSTIN MUSZYNSKI

One man has been arrested and a second arrest is expected in connection with the death of a woman who was delayed medical care when she was run over in a driveway in Wolcott earlier this year.

James Sadlowski, 31, was arrested Thursday on charges of second-degree manslaughter, intentional cruelty to persons, failure to renew a motor vehicle registration, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, operating with no insurance and evading responsibility that caused a death, according to the Wolcott Police Department.

He was taken into custody at a motel in Meriden and was held on $500,000 bond.

Police said they obtained warrants on Wednesday for

Sadlowski and Brandon Hamel in connection with the death of 37-year-old Alexandra Standish in February. Hamel, who was Standish’s boyfriend, has not yet been charged.

According to police, Wolcott officers were contacted by members of the Bristol Police Department around 3 a.m. on Feb. 10 in connection with an untimely death. Standish was taken to Bristol Hospital by Hamel and was treated for serious injuries. She died at the hospital after succumbing to her injuries, police said.

According to Wolcott police, Hamel told Bristol officers Standish suffered her injuries at their home at 129 Central Ave. in Wolcott, though he was not cooperative in providing additional information about her death.

Wolcott police said they learned that Standish may have been run over in the driveway of the home, where they responded and found evidence of a possible crime scene. The Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit also responded to assist in processing evidence.

According to police, investigators were able to review video footage of the incident from a Ring doorbell at the home.

Police said an investigation showed that Standish, Hamel and Sadlowski went out drinking around 11 p.m. at a local restaurant. They stayed out until about 1 a.m. and drove in two cars to the home shared by Standish and Hamel, according to police.

Hamel parked in the garage, while Sadlowski stayed in the driveway in his pickup truck. Standish went out to the driveway to speak with Sadlowski and, after a few minutes, he backed out and ran her over as she was behind the vehicle, police said. Sadlowski stopped the truck before Hamel came outside, where Standish was unconscious on the ground, according to police.

Hamel and Sadlowski lifted Standish and put her into Hamel’s vehicle before Sadlowski left and went to the motel in Meriden where he was staying, police said.

According to police, Hamel is recovering from serious injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash that occurred a couple weeks after Standish died. Once he is discharged, he is expected to be arrested on charges of interfering with a police investigation and intentional cruelty to a person. The bond on his warrant is $100,000.
