Lancers rally in the 7th to beat Falcons
Waterford — Waterford scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Fitch, 3-1, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I softball game on Monday.
Emilia Podeszwa had a double, a solo home run and two RBI while Paige Jessuck had two singles and Charlotte Jessuck added a double for the Lancers (6-1, 2-0).
Brielle Kenney allowed four hits while striking out five and walking four to earn the win.
Jaclyn Steffens, Grace Cosmopolous, Gabi Amaral and Zoe Cosmopolous each had hits for the Falcons (1-2, 0-1).
In other games:
• Ledyard took advantage New London's 12 errors and Maegan Miller had three hits and four RBI in a 16-0 win in a Division II game that lasted five innings due to the mercy rule. Faith Dalton had four hits and Mia Sterling added two for the Colonels (2-2, 1-0). Alanna Noonan and Nichelle Tucker each had a hit for the Whalers (1-3, 0-1).
• Shay Deary chipped in two doubles and four RBI in Wheeler's 19-5 win over Lyman Memorial in a Division IV opener. Chloe Sanders had four hits and five RBI while Isabella Deledda added a double, triple and three RBI and Abbie Butremovic had two singles and an RBI for the Lions (2-1, 1-0). Rylee Benway had three hits and three RBI and Loretta Svedarsky added three hits and an RBI for the Bulldogs (0-4, 0-1).
• Griswold jumped out to a four-run lead and held on for a 6-5 win over St. Bernard in ECC Division III. Winning pitcher Abby Matheson, who struck out 13, and Kierra Neilson had a hit and RBI for the Wolverines (3-1, 1-0).
Maddie Scribner had two hits and Anabelle Wenzel had a double and two RBI for the Saints ( 2-1, 0-1).
• Amanda Corrice struck out 10 and Abby Daniewicz had a single, double and scored two runs for Montville in a 5-2 win over Norwich Tech.
Maddie Taylor and Taryn Feragne each had a hit for the Wolves (5-1). Morgan Cook had two singles and a double for the Warriors (1-3).
• Amelia Driscoll had two singles, a triple, a home run and five RBI to lift Norwich Free Academy past East Lyme, 10-3, in a Division I game.
Winning pitcher Haley Smith added a triple for the Wildcats (3-2, 1-0). Karly Sorrentino had two hits and two RBI for the Vikings (2-3, 0-2).
