WATERFORD, OLD LYME BANDS HOLD JOINT CONCERT TODAY

The Waterford Community and Old Lyme Town bands will hold a joint concert at 2 p.m. today in the Robert Gaucher Auditorium at Ledyard High School. Titled “Legends and Lore: A Symphonic Saga,” the Waterford Community Band will open the concert with a slate of songs directed by Zach Thomas, followed by the Old Lyme Town Band under the direction of Richard Chiappetta, and then the two bands will combine to play four songs. Admission is free.

PLANT SALE IN GROTON RUNS THROUGH MAY 11

Groton Public Schools Student Nutrition Services/Food Services Department is hosting its annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale from now through May 11. This year, all proceeds will benefit families struggling with school meal debt. The events are held at the Fitch High School Greenhouse on the following days and times: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday; 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

EVENING OF POETRY APRIL 29 AT MYSTIC & NOANK LIBRARY

National Poetry Month will be celebrated from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 29, at the Mystic & Noank Library. The evening will feature local poets reading their own work, and local readers reading a favorite poem. Resident poet Philip Kuepper will read his poem, “The Minefield of the Imaginatio­n.” Gail Turgeon will read “Mixology, German Stock, and Good Grief.” Poets Colin Goedecke, Ery Caswell, and Lyd Currey will also read their own poems. Bruce Jones of the Groton Town Council will read “The Cremation of Sam McGee” by Robert Service, and Kevin Booker of Booker Enterprise­s will choose a favorite poem to read. PLANT SALE IN PAWCATUCK ON MAY 1

The Stanton-Davis Homestead Museum will host a fundraisin­g plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 1 at 576a Greenhaven Road, Pawcatuck. The sale will be held on the front lawn and will feature locally grown trees, plants and perennials; fruits and jams as well as garden tools. TAKE A THEATRICAL RIDE MAY 3 IN NEW LONDON

The Explorator­y Playwritin­g Program that functions in associatio­n with Flock MakerSpace and the Garde Arts Center will showcase student work at the New London Thames Club’s Presidents’ Room, Friday, May 3, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and performanc­es starting at 6:15. GRAVE MARKING CEREMONY COMING MAY 4 IN OLD LYME

On Saturday, May 4, the Connecticu­t Society of the Sons of the American Revolution will hold an SAR grave marking ceremony for African American patriot Prince Crosley, who was enslaved to Deputy Gov. Matthew Griswold of Lyme, and later enlisted as a Revolution­ary War soldier to obtain his freedom. The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. at Duck River Cemetery, 12 McCurdy Road, Old Lyme. The ceremony is open to the public.

‘FAIR WINDS’ CONCERT MAY 5 IN NEW LONDON

COMEDY NIGHT MAY 10 IN OLD SAYBROOK

A fundraiser comedy night for Thames River Community Service featuring Dave Reilly and a small silent auction with light foods and a cash bar will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 10 at The Estuary, 220 Main St. in Old Saybrook. Thames River Community Service provides housing with support services for young adults ages 18–24 who have been homeless. Support services include employment assistance, financial literacy and tenancy skills. ARTREACH SHOW COMES TO GROTON AIRPORT

The Cultural Coalition’s Art at the Airport spring exhibit, “The Color of Sound” presented by Artreach Inc. will be on view through June 30 at Groton-New London Airport in the airport’s main terminal located at 155 Tower Ave. in Groton. The free exhibit features original artwork of different media created by its program members. The artists, adults living with psychiatri­c diagnoses, are led by master teaching artist Faith Satterfiel­d.
