Eve Chapin

-

Mystic — Eve Schoch Chapin died as a result of a stroke April 30, 2024. She was born to Carolina (Voltzenlogel) and August Schoch on May 7, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

At the University of Cincinnati, on her way to a degree in art, she met Richard Chapin, and they were married in 1951. Moving around while Dick was in the Navy, they eventually settled and stayed in Charlotte, N.C. Although an only child, Eve seemed well-suited for the challenges of raising four boys. She modeled the concept of the busy, involved life, as an obligate creative and entrepreneur. She was heavily involved with the Lake Norman Yacht Club, where the family spent all their weekends, and as an inventive and successful furniture showroom designer. She encouraged her boys to take risks, with the understanding that every action has consequences. She raised them to be level-headed and independent but loved it when they came home to visit.

Between raising the boys and sailing, Eve had a lifelong passion for making arts and crafts: baskets, tapestry, sewing, quilting, loom-weaving, watercolors, gardening, sketching, and paper crafts. She was exceptionally gifted at each of these.

Eve and Dick moved into StoneRidge in Mystic in 2006 and quickly became a vibrant part of that wonderful community. She participated in numerous internal committees and developed a well-deserved reputation for flamboyant clothing, colorful, expressive necklaces, and brightening everyone’s day.

Eve was predeceased by her husband, Dick, and is survived by their four sons and their awesome wives, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Our world is smaller and less surprising without her.
