Vincent Grybauskas
Ledyard — Vincent A. Grybauskas, aged 56, residing in Ledyard, peacefully departed April 30, 2024, following a courageous battle against advanced pancreatic cancer. Vincent embodied the resilience of the stones he meticulously crafted as a mason, yet succumbed to the relentless assault of cancer. Born in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., he received his education in Ledyard, and pursued construction management at Utica College.
Vincent’s professional journey led him through roles at Electric Boat, Quonset Point, and the seafood distribution industry in Galilee, R.I. He also showcased his culinary talents as a chef across numerous southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island shore restaurants, honing his skills amidst family gatherings and excursions to uncover the finest clams in Narragansett’s tidal pools. As a stone mason, Vincent believed that every stone held a narrative — its origin, density and purpose in shaping Connecticut and Rhode Island’s architectural landscape. Beyond his craftsmanship, he was a wordsmith, captivating audiences with his storytelling prowess and delving into the depths of history and science through voracious reading. Proud of his Lithuanian heritage, he embraced his ancestral language and upheld a deep respect for elders, offering unwavering support to those in need. Above all, Vincent cherished his children, Chelsea, Maxson and Morgan, fostering cherished memories of campfire gatherings and chasing fireflies under the night sky. Besides his children, Vincent is survived by his loving parents, Vincent M. and Sandra J. Grybauskas; his brother John (Jennifer); sister Kathryn (Chad); niece Kristen; and nephews, Jack and William.
A private burial will take place at Melrose Cemetery in Brockton, Mass., as a tribute to Vincent’s life and legacy. Please visit www.byles.com to share a memory or condolence with the family.
