Ledyard wraps up ECC Div. II title in boys’ tennis

— Ledyard clinched the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys' tennis title with a 5-2 win over Woodstock on Saturday.

Malloch Allison and Ben Wolford won their No. 2 and No. 4 singles matches, respectively, without dropping a game for the Colonels, who are 9-5 overall, 6-0 in the division.

Sebastian Fieldsend posted a straight set win at No. 1 singles and the doubles duos of Luke Anderson/ Hendrick Triem and Colin Westkott and Aiden Williams also won in straight sets.

In other matches:

• Christos Matsas, Ian Belfour, Quinn LeBelle and Colton Murch led a singles sweep in Waterford's 7-0 victory over New London. The No. 1 doubles duo of Louis Dhervilly and Adam Balfour won their match, 6-2 and 6-0, for the Lancers (11-3). The Whalers fell to 8-6.

• Montville lost to Westbrook, 7-0, to slip to 11-5 overall. Ryan Yang battled Yareth Antunez to three sets at No. 3 singles before falling, 6-3, 5-7 and 7-5.

Girls’ tennis

• Old Lyme improved to 14-2 overall by beating East Hampton, 6-1, in the Shoreline Conference. Elaina Morosky and Katherine Zhang won their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, respectively, without dropping a game. At No. 1 doubles, Aggie Hunt and Beatrice Hunt won 6-0, 6-0.

Softball

• Abby Matheson tossed a four-hitter and Arianna Pedraza chipped in two hits and two RBI, leading Griswold past Ledyard, 6-2. Summer McLean had two hits and scored two runs for the Wolverines (12-4). Kierra Nelson's triple in the sixth inning drove in the go-ahead run and Bella Bruno added a two-run double.

Faith Dalton had two hits and scored two runs and Lexi Lemmon added a single and an RBI for the Colonels (11-6).

• Wheeler broke the game open with eight runs in the second inning on the way to a 30-0 win over Windham in Division IV game that went five innings.

Reese Main tossed a no-hitter, striking out 11 and didn't issue a walk while also finishing with four hits and three RBI for the Lions (9-4, 5-0). Chloe Sanders had four hits and three RBI, Isabella Deledda had three hits and three RBI and Morgyn Perkins had three hits, including a home run, and three RBI.

• Abby Robinson pitched a two-hitter, striking out nine including the 600th in her career, and drove in the game's only run with a double in the sixth inning, leading East Lyme past Guilford, 1-0.

Robinson had two hits overall for the Vikings (10-6).

• Norwich Tech beat Prince Tech, 23-5, in a game that lasted five innings. Winning pitcher Maya Stimson went 3 for 5 with two RBI and four runs scored while Khaiyanna Maldonado had a home run and four RBI and Brooke Ostrowski added five RBI for the Warriors (11-7).

Girls’ lacrosse

• East Lyme received four goals and an assist from Cassidy O'Brien in a 13-6 win over Ledyard. Lilly Poletto had two goals and five assists for the Vikings (5-9) while Gianna DiLoreto added three goals and Taylor Kachinsky had two goals and an assist. Tatianna Irizarry led the Colonels (9-5) with three goals and Maddie McLeod had two while Kaitlyn Sweeney added a goal and an assist.

• Kylie Spreng scored six goals and Karissa Hochdorfer added two for Montville in a 10-5 win over Bacon Academy/East Hampton in Division II.

Anna Bubucis had a goal and an assist while Savannah Vichas also scored and goalie Katie Koning made eight saves for the Wolves (5-8, 2-5). The Bobcats fell to 2-11, 0-7.

• Wheeler improved to 9-3 overall with a 19-12 win over Rocky Hill. Sophia Gouveia scored eight goals while Grace Cassata and Katie Pierce had three apiece and Stella Mastroianni and Naomi Boord each added two for the Lions. Goalie Anna Barber had seven saves.

• Sienna Caron scored two goals for Griswold/Norwich Tech in a 14-4 loss to Morgan. Amelia Hawkins had a goal and an assist and Tessa Marchand also scored for the Wolverines (4-9).

Boys’ lacrosse

• Mason Bussman's five goals and three assists helped power Old Lyme past Stonington, 14-12. Macklin Cushman had five goals and an assist while Luca Signora scored twice and goalie Brodie Luppincott had five saves for the Wildcats 9-5.

Ethan Mahoney chipped in six goals and two assists for the Bears (78) while Logan Christina scored twice and Maclan Griscom added three assists.

• Waterford out-scored Valley Regional in every quarter in a 13-5 victory. Johan Deon led the Lancers (6-9) with four goals while Griffin Neal had two goals and three assists and Ben Dubicki added three goals.

Girls’ track

• Kamryn Plikus placed first overall in the pole vault (10 feet), helping Montville take second in the small team division of the state freshmen-sophomore track and field championships. Hannah Suarez was second in the pole vault while Tiana Bamber finished first in the 100 and third in the 200 and Evelyn Granskog was second in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and ran a leg on the second place 4x400 relay team for the Wolves.

• Serena Mazzi set a school record with a winning time of 26.46 seconds in the 200 meters, helping Old Lyme finish second in the Old Saybrook Runnin' Rams Invitational on Friday. Zoe Eastman-Grossel ran a school-record time in the 400, winning in 59.10, while Chase Gilbert took first in the 3,200 (11:08.25) and second in the 400 (59.28). Tabitha Colwell placed third in the long jump in 15 feet, five inches.

Boys’ track

• Ryan Dunning was Fitch's top performer at the Greater Hartford Invitational, placing second in the 1,600 in 4:26.85.

Gianni Colebut took fourth in the high jump (5-10) while Calvin McCoy was fifth in the 100 (11.39) and Evan Vitagliano fifth in the 800 (2:00.18) for the Falcons. In the long jump, Ben Perry was third (21-3.25), Zayshawn Griffin fourth (21-2) and Caylen Morris sixth (20-9.5). The 4x400 relay team of Dunning, Alex Campos Diaz, Amill Houston and Vitagliano took third in 3:36.4.

• Jacob Volkers finished first in the 100 (11.17) and second in the 200 (23.05, as Old Lyme took sixth in the Old Saybrook Runnin' Rams Invitational on Friday. Patrick Lynch won the long jump with a distance of 20-1.
