METS ACE HARVEY TO MISS ’14 SEASON

new york » New YorkMets ace Matt Harvey will have surgery on a partially torn ligament in his right elbow, sidelining him for the 2014 season.

The 24-year-old right-hander will be operated on this month by Dr. James Andrews, the team said Friday. Projected recuperati­on for elbow ligament operations is about a year.

Harvey, the NL starter in the All-Star Game, went 9-5 with a 2.27 ERA and 191 strikeouts in 178L innings this year.

Pujols sues Clark B st. louis » Albert Pujols sued Jack Clark over comments on a local radio show accusing the three-time NL MVP of using steroids.

The lawsuit between former St. Louis Cardinals stars seeks unspecifie­d damages that would be donated to charity, and asks for a determinat­ion and declaratio­n that Clark’s statements are false.

Clark made the comments Aug. 2 on WGNU-AM radio’s “The King and the Ripper Show,” saying he knew “for a fact” Pujols used steroids and performanc­e enhancing drugs. He called Pujols “a juicer” and made similar on-air comments three days later.

Clark and his co-host on the program, Kevin Slaten, were fired a week into their tenure.

Franklin aces college test B

berkeley, calif. » Olympic star Missy Franklin won the 100 backstroke and anchored California’s winning 400 medley relay team in her first collegiate home meet.

Franklin helped the Golden Bears down Washington State 164-89 in the Pac-12 dual meet.

Franklin, who owns theworld record in the 200 back, won the 100 back in 54.37 seconds. In the medley relay, she hit the water for the final lap in third place. She went 48.09 and the Golden Bears won the event by 1.43 seconds.

Browns lose Hoyer for season B

cleveland » Quarterbac­k Brian Hoyer, who sparked his Cleveland Browns to two straight wins, will miss the rest of the season because of a torn right knee ligament suffered in Thursday night’s 37-24 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said Brandon Weeden will return as Cleveland’s starter.

Bills’ Manuel sidelined. Buffalo Bills rookie quarterbac­k E.J. Manuel has a sprained lateral collateral ligament in his right knee that will not require surgery but will sideline him at least two weeks and potentiall­y longer, coach Doug Marrone said.

Marrone said the Bills will look into acquiring another quarterbac­k and did not rule out the possibilit­y of that player starting Buffalo’s next game.

• The New York Giants ac- quired three-time Pro Bowl linebacker Jon Beason from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a late-round draft pick in 2014.

• Indianapol­is Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw will miss Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks and take a couple of weeks to decide whether to have season-ending neck surgery.

• Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden (hamstring) missed a third consecutiv­e day of practice and is unlikely to play Sunday night against the San Diego Chargers.
