A teenager killed in Adams County in August after an extortion attempt went bad was shot four times, according to an autopsy report.

Gustavo “Danny” EspinosaGamboa, 16, was shot three times in the head and once in the chest.

William Dean Otto, 43, is in custody, awaiting trial on first-degree murder charges related to the deaths of Espinosa-Gamboa and his friend Jonathan Gonzalez, 15.

Autopsy reports have been completed for both boys, but only the one for Espinosa-Gamboa was released to The Denver Post.

That report describes the cause of death as two gunshot wounds to the right side of his head and one to the left side, and one shot to his chest. The autopsy also detected levels of THC, the active component of marijuana.

According to an arrest affidavit in the case, Otto turned himself in to police early Aug. 11. He led investigators to Sedgwick County, where the bodies were found buried.

The teenager’s families had just reported the boys missing from their homes in unincorporated Adams County and a friend had come forward to tell police why the disappearance worried him.

According to the friend, one of the boys had a cellphone video of Otto asking the boy for sex and then touching him inappropriately. According to the affidavit, the boys told the friend that they planned to use the video to blackmail Otto for $70,000.

When Otto talked to investigators, he told police the boys had requested $10,000 each after they had seen him withdraw $14,000 from his retirement account.

Otto said he refused to pay the boys, and then Gonzalez went to the kitchen, got a butcher knife and threatened him, according to the affidavit. Otto said he went to his bedroom, got a .22-caliber handgun and shot the boys to death.

Otto’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 1 .
