OneManning in hand worth about four Foxes
Change doesn’t add up.
Kiz, saw you ask Twitter followers if a contract extension for coach John Fox that ties him to the tenure of quarterback Peyton Manning was a good idea or a bad idea. It’s the only idea, if you ask me. At this point, I don’t think Manning is likely up for any significant changes in the coaching staff, so what other alternative is there, really?
Kiz bleeds burgundy red.
Manning gets all the credit in Denver. Fox shoulders all the blame. But let’s do the math. Average the salary and bonus compensation in the veteran quarterback’s deal through 2016, and Manning will be paid in the neighborhood of $20 million per season. Fox figures to earn slightly more than $5 million. Follow the money and you’ll know: In the Broncos’ quest for a championship, Manning is four times as important as Fox.
What a hypocrite you are, Kiz, to write about the lack of hockey fans in Denver. So you think itwould be a shame if the Avalanche gets home ice and the seats are filled with Chicago fans. Shame on you! While your Broncos prepared for their humiliating Super Bowl experience, I had to hunt for articles on our ever-improving NHL team in TheDenver Post. Maybe you could set aside your Broncos obsession to cover our Avs. So you ask, “When is Denver going to get its voice back as a hockey town?” Perhaps it will bewhen the media joins our cheers. See you in the playoffs?
Kiz: While the Broncos crawled back to Denver after the Super Bowl, your faithful correspondent hopped a rocket to Russia to join your pals Gabe, Dutchy, Varly and Paulie at the Winter Olympics. Next to a couple of pieces of gold and silver, I’m quite sure the highlight of the Colorado players’ trip was seeing good ol’ Kiz at the hockey rink. Your Denver Post will go to the lengths of the earth to cover the Avs. But there’s no need to say thanks, Debbie. Hockey is my life.
Hitting the Bull’s-eye.
It is popular to pile on Rockies catcherWilin Rosario because he does not frame pitches, etc. Enough of your echochamber criticism, Kiz! The team needs to coach up Rosario and help him during games, because unlike many on the roster, he is dynamic offensively and fun to watch.
Bettor up.
Back in the game.
Kiz: No player is more important to the strong defense of a baseball team than catcher. Rosario’s work behind the plate, while improving, is indefensible.
Just say it, Kiz: Rosario is not the sharpest tack in the box and plays a position that demands having one of your smartest players.
Kiz: In a cordial bit of give-and-take, Rockies owner DickMonfort approached me last week and noted that I endorsed third baseman Nolan Arenado as the team’s breakout player of 2014. Monfort told me he was taking Rosario, and added with a smile: “We’ll see who’s right.” There’s nothing more fun than some friendly banter at the ballyard. Game on!
And today’s parting shot is from a Broncos fan who has been in hiding since the first Sunday in February:
Iwas so upset after the Super Bowl, I never came out ofmy house for two months, untilmy wife finallymade me go to a dental appointment. The Broncos need to draft a running back.
