new york Animal welfare activists picketing actor Liam Neeson’s home on Saturday said they don’t agree with him that the city’s carriage horses should keep working.

Neeson didn’t appear as about 50 demonstrat­ors filled the sidewalk in front of his apartment building on Manhattan’sUpperWest Side. Policewatc­hed, and doormen photograph­ed protesters hoisting signs with such slogans as “Liam Neeson: Stop Supporting Cruelty!” and “Worked to Death!” with an image of a deadhorse in a park.

Del Taco customers hit with big charges B

santa paula, calif. » What was supposed to be a cheap bite at Del Taco turned out to be small fortune for some Southern California customers.

About 150 people who ordered this week at the Mexican-style fast food chain in Santa Paula, 65 miles northwest of Los Angeles, were mistakenly charged thousands of dollars for burritos, tacos and soft drinks. Customer Michael Cole said he was surprised when he was charged $4,050 for one CrunchTada Pizza and two beef tacos.

The cause of the technical error was unknown, but it affected ATMand credit-card transactio­ns at one Del Taco restaurant.

Golden eagle ties for second-oldest

sheridan, wyo. » A golden eagle that was apparently electrocut­ed near Sheridan was more than 30 years old, which ties the record for second-oldest in the species that has ever been tagged in North America, Wyoming wildlife officials said. The eagle was found March 19 on Soldier Creek Road by a resident, who alertedWyo­ming Game and Fish Department officials, the Sheridan Press reported.

$14 million awarded in suit over contracept­ive

chicago » A jury has awarded $14 million to a suburban Chicago woman who sued her doctor over a debilitati­ng stroke she suffered after taking the birth control drug Yasmin.

Lawyers for Mariola Zapalski, of Elmwood Park, said the stroke occurred 13 days after she began taking the drug, paralyzing her left side and causing permanent brain injury.

Woman says her date stole dog, TV B

dover, n. j. » No stolen hearts on this first date. Instead, a New Jersey woman says a man she met on a dating website stole her dog and her flat-screen TV.

Dover police tell the Daily Record of Parsippany that the pair went out for the first time Thursday night. After returning home, the woman said she became occupied in another room, leaving the man alone. When she returned, he was gone— and so were her Yorkshire terrier named Violet and her TV valued at $3,000. The woman says her dog was worth $4,000.

Man guilty in flight diversion

anchorage, alaska » A 38-year-old man arrested after what was described as unruly behavior that caused a Tokyo to New York flight to be diverted to Anchorage has pleaded guilty to interferin­g with a flight crew.

U.S. Attorney Karen Loeffler’s office on Friday announced the plea entered by Nobuya Michael Ochinero. KTUU-TV reports that charging documents say the man was on severalmed­ications Feb. 10 when he boarded the flight.
