Tulo’s time with Rockies might be running short

Pitch to trade Tulo.

Trade Troy Tulowitzki now. Holy blasphemy, Batman! As a Rockies season-ticket holder since Eric Young went yard on theMontreal Expos more than 20 years ago, I know the value of good pitching in Denver is priceless. Tulo’s heavy legs and pains have worn out their welcome. Hey, we all love the guy, but for goodness sakes, he’s undependable. I say move this guy and his outrageous salary while he has value for some much-coveted pitching.

We’ve all heard the buzz about hotshot pitchers Eddie Butler and Jonathan Gray in the Colorado farm system. Not to put pressure on two guys still in the minors, but if these guys aren’t bona fide top-of-the-rotation starters sooner rather than later, then it will only be amatter of time before the Rockies will have to consider trading Tulowitzki and bring on the umpteenth rebuilding plan of the Dan O’Dowd regime.

Arenado fields praise.

As a baseballcrazed, 10-year-old boy, the Baltimore Oriolesweremy team, sowhen I think third baseman, my mind plays Brooks Robinson highlights. The first time I sawRockies third basemanNolan Arenado charge a groundball, make a barehanded pick and throwto first I thought Iwas having a flashback. Other thanmy love of baseball, Arenado is a reason to spend money on the Rockies.

Kiz: Arenado is so good, some of the beautiful people up on the new party deck might actually put down their beers and stop chatting long enough to applaud his next glove gem … on instant replay. Because we all know nobody goes to Coors Field to watch baseball.

Talkin’ football.

Should the NFL care if Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and offensive coordinator Adam Gase got any competitive advantage by recently visiting coach Nick Saban in Alabama? Absolutely! Saban can defy gravity, know the secret to evolution and can even blow out his own sprinklers.

The NFL does everything in its power to keep 317 million Americans talking football 365 days per year. But Gase and Manning are supposed to not talk football when they bump into each other in Alabama? What else is there to talk about in Alabama other than football, BBQ and humidity? We here at Kickin’ It Headquarters thought the NCAA had a monopoly on dumb rules.

No emotional rescue.

Hey Kiz, your recent interviewwith coach John Foxwas great, but you didn’t ask himwhat Denver is planning to do to fix the offense. I understand defense was a problem throughout last season, but howcould the best offense statistically in the history of the NFL be shut down in the Super Bowl? You mentioned the Broncos rely too much on Manning. I think it’smore than that. He’s a cerebral leader, but in tough times a team needs an emotional, physical leader. John Elwaywas both.

Kiz: So let me get this straight. The quarterbackwho threw55 touchdown passes is a problem, because Manning doesn’t have a brawnier chest or a yappier mouth? Yeah, right. But you are correct about one thing: The Broncoswould like to beef up its running game. So I’ll give Elway two prospects to consider in Round 2 of the NFL draft: Colorado State centerWeston Richburg and Washington running back Bishop Sankey.

Quit joshing around, Kiz.

And today’s parting shot reminds us there are two people whom bitter Denver sports fans never allow a word of praise: JoshMcDaniels and Carmelo Anthony:

Every time I read your column, I lose IQ points, Kiz. Only a moron would stateMcDaniels drafted better than Elway. Elway has stacked this team with solid players since he took over at Dove Valley.
