CUDDYER TAKES BP BUT REMAINS OUT

-

Michael Cuddyer took batting practice in the rain Saturday at Coors Field. But when he can play again remains in doubt.

Cuddyer has a strained left hamstring. If he can’t get back on the field soon, the Rockies may need to make a roster decision.

“You can probably carry a player like that three of four days before you make a call,” Rockies managerWaltWeiss said. “He’s still pretty sore. So we’ll have to watch him pretty closely the next few days.”

Weiss said Cuddyer will be out “possibly for the series.” And a move to the disabled list remains an option early this week.

Cuddyer missed Friday’s game after suffering the injury Thursday at San Diego. After taking treatment on his leg much of Saturday, Cuddyer took 25 swings in batting practice.

“It’s all right,” said Cuddyer, who hobbled to first base after tweaking his lower left hamstring in that game at San Diego. “It’s not too tight.”

If Cuddyer is not ready to play byMonday, when the Rockies start a series against the Giants, he may go on the disabled list.

Charlie Blackmon started again for Cuddyer in right field Saturday night against Philadelphia, with Drew Stubbs in center. They combined to go 6-for-10 Friday night, when they scored five total runs.

“I’m not real smart,” Weiss said, “but I’ll stick with what works.”

Bad break.

Rockies minorleaguer MattMcBride walked through the big-league clubhouse on crutches Saturday, a day after breaking his foot during a home run trot.

McBride hit his first Triple-A homer of the season Friday in Colorado Springs. But as he jogged between first and second base, he felt a pop. “Itwas like I got shot,” McBride said.

McBride broke the metatarsal bone in his right foot, he said, and might have aggravated a previous stress fracture. He’ll return to the Sky Sox “hopefully sometime in June,” he said.
