GUNMEN KILL 22 AS TENSIONS RISE IN KENYA

The attacks come as tensions are rising over a planned protest rallyMonda­y in Nairobi by the opposition, which wants the government to convene national talks over security issues, the increasing cost of living, corruption and the disbandmen­t of the electoral authority. Many fear the protests could further divide the nation along tribal lines.

TSA: Some at overseas airports must turn on phones

washington » The Transporta­tion Security Administra­tion is requiring passengers at some overseas airports that offer U.S.-bound flights to power on their electronic devices.

The TSA said it is requiring some overseas airports to have passengers turn on devices such as cellphones.

It said devices that won’t power up won’t be allowed on planes, and those travelers may have to undergo additional screening.

Girl riding scooter killed by stray bullet

paterson, n. j. » A 12-year-old girl riding a scooter in a northern New Jersey neighborho­od was struck and killed by a stray bullet, a shooting authoritie­s said might be linked to another that had occurred in the area several hours earlier.

Police think the shooter was aiming at someone else when Genesis Rincon was struck about 8:40 p.m. Saturday.
