WOMAN DIES IN CRASH ON RABBIT EARS PASS

steamboat springs A woman died after an SUV she was driving hit a tanker truck and caught fire on Rabbit Ears Pass. The Colorado State Patrol says it was responding to reports of a drunken driver when the crash occurred Friday, according to Steamboat Today.

Troopers identified the woman who died as Debra Emal, 61, of Fraser.

The driver of the tanker truck, Mark Bills of Parker, was not injured.

gilcrest » A threevehic­le crash Saturday morning on U.S. 85 north of Gilcrest killed a 6year-old Greeley girl and sent eight others to the hospital.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid told the Greeley Tribune that few details about the crash were immediatel­y available, but it involved a tractor-trailer, a sedan and a pickup truck.

U.S. 85 southbound was closed for more than four hours while authoritie­s worked to clear the wreckage and investigat­e the crash.

Man faces attempted murder charge.

Rodney Lewis, 49, faces multiple charges after shooting his girlfriend’s son at his Arapahoe County apartment Friday night.

Samuel Knox, 37, was taken to a local hospital, treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and released Saturday morning, said Capt. Larry Etheridge of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department.

Lewis, was arrested and taken to the Denver Police Department. Lewis faces five charges: first-degree criminal attempted murder, first-degree assault, felony menacing, reckless endangerme­nt and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

According to the sheriff’s office, Lewis knocked on the younger man’s door in an apartment complex at 2172 S. TrentonWay at 10:58 p.m. Friday.

The two men began arguing. It’s unclear what the subject of the argument was. The victim’s mother was not present.

Christophe­rWaide, 23, appeared in court Friday, and the judge ruled the case could move forward on charges of first-degree murder, sexual exploitati­on of a minor and tampering with evidence.

Waide is suspected in the disappeara­nce of 19-year-old Lea Chali Porter.

Her body hasn’t been found, but police have saidWaide is cooperatin­g in the search.
