air force academy » Air Force coach Troy Calhoun might feel a little better about playing Colorado State without two question marks concerning Friday’s game at Falcon Stadium.

For one thing, he’d like to have the Cadet wing in attendance for its support, but that won’t happen because the student body is off for Thanksgiving weekend.

Calhoun alsowould like to be assured that senior quarterback Kale Pearson will make his 12th start of the season.

Pearson was shaken by a jarring tackle near the end of Saturday’s game at San Diego State. He was replaced by sophomore Nate Romine for the final few minutes of the game.

Pearson has directed the Falcons to an 8-3 record (4-3 in the Mountain West). He has completed 96-of-162pass attempts(59percent) for 1,513 yards and14 touchdowns. He also has rushed for646 yards and six touchdowns.

Asked about possible concussion symptoms at hisweekly news conference Tuesday, Calhoun said he had no new information.

“We’ll just have to see where he is at practice,” Calhoun said.

Asked if the Rams would prepare to face Romine, CSU coach Jim McElwain said: “I don’t think so. I think with the importance of this game, Kale is going to do everything he can to play.”

Footnote.

Former Air Force coach Ken Hatfield was named the 2015 recipient of the AFCA’s Amos Alonzo Stagg Award. He coached the Falcons from 1979-83, compiling a 26-32-1 record, including 10-2 his final season. Hatfield also coached at Arkansas, Clemson and Rice, compiling a 168-140-4 record.
